Designed by Daniel Burnham and John Root, the Reliance Building opened in 1895 and today is listed among the 100 most historically significant skyscrapers in the world.
Mayor Richard M. Daley and the City’s downtown redevelopment team acquired the building in 1991. They quickly set out to save The Reliance by restoring its white terra cotta exterior. McCaffery Interests acquired The Reliance Building from the City and the award-winning renovation transformed one of the most beautiful buildings in the Chicago Loop into the Hotel Burnham; a visually stunning 122-room European-style boutique hotel featuring one of Chicago’s hottest restaurants, The Atwood Café.
The hotel is managed by The Kimpton Hotel and Restaurant Group, owners and operators of many fine hotels and restaurants throughout the country.
