The Lakeside Common is the first phase of the redevelopment of nearly 500 acres of lakefront known as Lakeside that is certain to shape, impact and uplift Chicago. Originally, this enormous site which is thesize of the current Loop, was home to the well known U.S. Steel Southworks steel mill.
Only 15 minutes from the Loop and located on South Lake Shore Drive, Phase 1 is envisioned to include a mixed-use shopping and residential district. The Lakeside Common is located on a 76-acre land parcel in the northwest area of the Lakeside master plan. The Lakeside Common encompasses a complimentary mix of residential units, entertainment venues and approximately 800,000 square feet of commercial space anchored by national and regional restaurants and retail shops– to create an entirely new, environmentally-friendly, accessible and diverse urban community experience. Commencement of construction is projected for 2012.
