The Market Common South Shore is the first phase of the redevelopment of nearly 500 acres of lakefront that is certain to shape, impact and uplift Chicago. Originally, this enormous site, about the size of the current Loop, was home to the well known U.S. Steel Southworks steel mill.
Only 15 minutes from the Loop and located on South Shore Drive, The Market Common South Shore will revitalize the current industrial “no man’s-land” into a walkable collection of neighborhoods. The 500 acre master plan envisions an attractive, accessible and cohesive shopping/dining experience with a combination of thousands of new residences, the Market Common SouthShore retail center with restaurants, a new marina, landscaped parks, bike paths and the new US-41 South Shore Drive.
