When McCaffery Interests acquired Friendship
Centre in 1996, it was the last remaining vacant parcel on
Wisconsin Avenue. Catering to the residents of Friendship Heights,
Chevy Chase and Montgomery County in general, Friendship Centre is
a 135,000-square-foot retail center with four separate and
distinct storefronts. Borders Books & Music, Eddie Bauer, Linens’
n Things and Maggiano’s/Corner Bakery join a strong retail
neighborhood including Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Pottery
Barn, Talbots, Tiffany & Co., Cheesecake Factory and Gap/Gap Kids.
The development also includes 28 single-family
townhomes developed by Eakin Youngentob along 43rd Street, which
serve as a buffer between Friendship Centre’s retailers and the
adjoining upscale neighborhood. Friendship Centre opened in Fall
1998.
