Opening for Business Thursday, November 15, 2001 at
The Market Common, Clarendon, Arlington, Virginia
Arlington, Virginia – November 1, 2001 – Daniel
McCaffery, McCaffery Interests, Inc. and Jay Fisette, Chairman,
Arlington County Board, together with local Arlington community,
business and municipal leaders will participate in an official Ribbon
Cutting Ceremony and Breakfast for The Market Common, Clarendon on
Thursday, November 15, 2001 at 8:30 a.m. The project is a joint
venture between McCaffery Interests, Inc., and RREEF, a national real
estate investment advisor and is opening on schedule and 100%
pre-leased.
The opening of The Market Common, Clarendon represents
the successful collaboration between McCaffery Interests, Arlington
County Officials and the citizens of the Clarendon neighborhood to
work together to bring prominent national retailers to the Clarendon
area. What stood as an empty parking lot for more than a decade is now
home to such popular shopping and service venues as Pottery Barn,
Williams-Sonoma Grande Cuisine, Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Apple
Computer, The Container Store, Imaginarium, Eastern Mountain Sports,
Myer-Emco, Jos. A. Bank Clothiers, and Washington Sports Club.
Scheduled to open in early 2002 are Crate & Barrel Home Store, Ann
Taylor Loft, South Moon Under and three fabulous restaurants, Big
Bowl, Timpano Italian Chophouse, and Z’Tegas Southwestern Grill.
Jay Fisette, Chairman, Arlington County Board
expressed the excitement of the Board and County staff. Fisette
comments, “ The Market Common, Clarendon is a welcomed addition to
Clarendon and Arlington. This project has been nothing but first
class, from involving the community in the initial design to
completing final construction on time. We’re very pleased to have had
the opportunity to work with McCaffery Interests, Inc. whom we
consider as much a neighbor as a developer.”
In additional to the more than 240,000 SF of prime
retail, the completed project will include 300 – Class A apartments,
87 townhomes, 22,000 square feet of office space and nearly 1,200
parking spaces. “People who visit The Market Common, Clarendon will be
treated to exceptional stores and restaurants situated in an
attractive, walkable, visually stimulating and architecturally
timeless street front setting” remarks Joe Antunovich, Antunovich
Associates, a nationally recognized Architectural, Planning and
Interior Design firm based in Chicago, IL. The Market Common,
Clarendon has already received two architectural awards for it’s
outstanding combination of retail and residential: 1) Delta
Associates, Mid Atlantic Community Impact Award for an Apartment
Property, 2001 and 2) Transwestern Carey Winston, DC Area Commercial
Real Estate Services Trendsetter of the Year, 1999.
Financing for The Market Common, Clarendon was
arranged by RREEF, a national real estate investment advisor.
Construction financing is provided by a banking group led by Fleet
Bank and includes BankOne and PNC Real Estate Finance
